Fénix Biography

Margareth de Carvalho, was born in Benguela on May 15, 1989 and raised in Luanda-Angola, daughter of entrepreneurial parents who passed on this skill to her. Oldest sister of 7 brothers, Margareth began her entrepreneurial life very early, when her parents traveled and left her to take care of her brothers, when there was no money at home Margareth sold cakes and personalized denim bags at school to provide for her brothers.

At 23 years old and already living in Lisbon, Margareth began using social media as a means of communication as she always enjoyed transmitting her knowledge and thoughts to the mostly female audience.

“Makeupby Fénix” was the first name given to her first professional Facebook page in 2013. As time went by, Margareth felt the need to put into practice all the sewing knowledge that had previously been transmitted to her by her mother and that was how that in 2014, in a small room in Lisbon, FÉNIX FASHION ATELIER was born.

FÉNIX was born first to change Margareth’s life, FÉNIX was the therapy, FÉNIX was the medicine, the friend, the support in the moments when Margareth needed it most, after a few years, Margareth realised that Fénix not only saves her life, as well as that of many women who look to Margareth as an inspiration because even after 11 years of marriage where she had two children, she divorced and decided to start over as a single mother of two children, she returned from the United States, where she lived for a year and a half, with 11 suitcases and the dream of making Fénix an international brand. She started over in Lisbon where she lived in the basement of her store with her three children for 4 years, and even after suffering domestic violence when she was 5 months pregnant with her third child, she did not give up and continued her path stronger and more mature to face entrepreneurial life.

In 2016, FÉNIX FASHION ATELIER participated in AFRO MILAN FASHIO WEEK
She already worked with the biggest artists in Portuguese-speaking Africa such as: Ary, Mayacool, Yola Araújo, Yasmine, Pérola, Mwana África, Pongo Love…

In January 2023, Margareth decided to go to PARIS FASHION WEEK for the first time without knowing absolutely anyone, without invitations to events, just her and her dream of making FÉNIX an international brand. After several trips to Paris and always with a limited budget, Margareth finally met someone who recognized her talent in March 2023, a negotiation that lasted months of endless trips to Paris and a year late. In April 2024, Margareth made her first runway show with FÉNIX FASHION ATELIER at PARIS FASHION WEEK

“Today I understand that God showed me Fénix not to make it an international brand but to make Fénix an international purpose, Fénix is not just a women’s clothing brand, Fénix is the vehicle that I use to achieve my purpose. My purpose is to give a voice to the thousands of black single mothers around the world, single mothers who suffer from social and structural prejudice, single mothers who are abandoned and humiliated by the judicial system, single mothers who need legal, psychological, social and financial support”
